How practice works

Listen

Your device reads each word aloud. Play it again, or in bee mode ask for the definition.

Spell

Type your answer. The word stays hidden until you check it. Bee mode gives one try and a clock.

Retry your misses

The results list every word you missed. Retry just those, or have the list emailed to you.

Spelling bee practice questions

How do I practice for a spelling bee online?

Pick your grade and start a quiz. Each word is read aloud, you type the spelling, and you see your score at the end along with every word you missed. Retry the misses, then come back the next day.

What is bee mode?

Bee mode works more like a real bee: one try per word, 30 seconds from the first time you hear it, and no letter count on screen. You can hear the word again or ask for its definition and part of speech. The time limit is our practice setting, not a contest rule.

Are these the official spelling bee words?

No. The lists are our own selection by grade, made for practice. We are not affiliated with the Scripps National Spelling Bee or any school bee. If your school gives out a study list, practice that list too.

Do I need an account?

No. Quizzes run in your browser with no sign-up. At the end you can choose to have your missed words emailed to you; that part is optional.
